Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 25 July 2026. These terms apply to any project agreed with Built by Clare, alongside the specific quote or brief we agree for your work.
Who this is
These terms are between you (the client) and Clare Langley (“I”, “me”), the owner of builtbyclare.com, based in Kent, United Kingdom. Contact: hello@builtbyclare.com.
How a project works
Every project starts with a brief and a quote covering scope, price and rough timeline. These terms sit alongside that quote — if the two ever conflict, the specific quote takes priority.
Payment
Projects are billed 50% deposit before work begins, and the remaining 50% on completion, before the finished site goes live or files are handed over. Invoices are due within 7 days. Late payments may be subject to statutory interest under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Regulations.
Revisions
Two rounds of revisions are included at each major stage (e.g. design, then build). Further rounds, or changes outside the agreed brief, are billed at £65 per hour.
Cancellation
If you cancel a project partway through, the deposit is non-refundable. Any further payment due is calculated only for work actually completed up to the point of cancellation, not the full remaining balance.
Content you provide
You’re responsible for providing text, images, logos and any other content needed for the site, and for making sure you have the rights to use it. I’m not liable for copyright issues arising from content you supply.
Your project is not placed into the delivery schedule until all agreed text, images, brand assets and required account access have been received. Any target date discussed before then is provisional. If the agreed content or access is incomplete, scheduling moves rather than work beginning around missing material.
Timelines & stalled projects
Timelines depend on receiving your content and feedback promptly once a project is under way. If a project goes quiet for more than 30 days waiting on content or feedback from you, I reserve the right to treat it as cancelled under the Cancellation terms above, so it doesn’t hold up other clients booked into my schedule. The deposit is non-refundable, and any further payment due is calculated only for work already completed. You’re welcome to start again later, but that means a fresh brief, quote and slot in the diary rather than an automatic resume. I’ll always flag things as they happen rather than let a project go quietly stale.
Ownership & portfolio rights
Once the final invoice is paid in full, ownership of the finished design and code transfers to you. Before that point, all work remains my property. Fonts, stock imagery, plugins or other third-party assets used in the build remain subject to their own separate licences.
I retain the right to feature completed projects — including screenshots, descriptions and links to the live site — in my portfolio and case studies, as this site already does.
Hosting & domains
Hosting and domain registration aren’t included unless specifically agreed in your quote. Unless we’ve agreed otherwise, you’re responsible for hosting and domain costs and renewals once the site is handed over.
After launch
For 14 days after launch, I’ll fix any genuine defects in the delivered work at no extra charge. This covers things that are broken relative to what was agreed — it doesn’t cover new features, content changes, or issues caused by changes made after handover.
Liability
My liability for any claim relating to a project is capped at the total fees paid for that project. I’m not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for outages or issues with third-party services (hosting providers, plugins, payment processors, and so on) that sit outside the work I deliver.
Confidentiality
Anything confidential you share with me during a project stays confidential, and I’d expect the same in return for any non-public parts of how I work.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
Changes to these terms
I may update these terms from time to time. For an active project, the terms in place when we agreed the quote will continue to apply to that project.
